Places to Live in Dallas Texas with a Family (West of Dallas)

So where are the best places to raise a family here in the Dallas Fort Worth area?  Today we wanna talk about five areas that are not getting as much love that people tend to overlook or don't really give as much love as some of the other cities here in the Dallas Fort Worth area. So stay tuned.

All right so five places that are great to raise a family here in Dallas Texas. Well, as I said, the DFW area is huge. There are so many great areas, north, south, east, and west that,  people are talking about all the time. They typically talk about your Frisco,  Plano, and  Flower Mound, Coppell among a ton of other areas. But today we're going to talk about five areas that are great for families. They have great school districts that people don't really talk about a whole lot. They get overlooked, but they're not that far off the beaten path. In fact, some are very convenient and very highly rated that you may wanna consider.  

Colleyville Texas

First on the list that we wanna talk about is the city of Colleyville, and I don't know why people don't talk about it a whole lot, because where it's located is perfect for commuting, whether it's to Fort worth or to Dallas. We have lots of people that we have known that have moved there because of the access to the freeway. They may work, in the airport or near the DFW airport.  So the location is definitely key when moving to Colleyville, and on top of all of that, it has fantastic schools in the Colville area. So obviously going to niche.com or great schools.org. But if you are looking for great schools for your kids, because you are moving here with family, Colleyville is definitely a place that you'll wanna look at. The city of Colleyville is just over 13 square miles and it has a population of almost 27,000 people. So it is quite large, compared to some of these other cities that we're gonna be talking about, but it has a lot to offer and most of the kids that do live within the city of Colleyville are part of the Colleyville Grapevine independent school district, but the way Colleyville is situated, you actually have a small little section that is part of the Keller independent school district, a tiny little section that's part of the Carroll independent school district, as well as. The south-central area that is part of the HEB school district, which is the Hurst, Euless, Bedford school district, which is,  fantastic schools, no matter where you live within Colleyville, but definitely something to think about if you know which school district you're wanting to get your kids into that Colleyville totally dependent upon where you live.

You actually may think you're going to be part of Colleyville, Grapevine school district, when in fact you could actually be part of another one. In fact, specifically, I had a good friend from middle school and high school that relocated here to Texas about four years ago and they checked out all the areas. They checked out all the school districts and they found the perfect house in Colleyville. Only to realize that they were part of the HEB school district and it wasn't a huge ordeal, but she thought for sure, they were moving into the Grapevine Colleyville area and forgot to check the school district. So something to think about if you're moving here and want to make sure which schools your kids are gonna go to, but there really are great schools, no matter where you are in Colleyville. People do love them and not to mention it has great access to anywhere you wanna go to get to the airport is quite easy and highway 26, which isn't really a highway big main road that heads kind of in a diagonal right through the center of Colleyville. That's where all of your shopping's gonna be. They even, have Lifetime Fitness, tons of grocery stores, and pretty much any business that you can imagine right there along highway 26, but it does have great access to go shopping up into Southlake and also down into the Northeast mall. So very, very conveniently located and it's especially a great location if you're going to be having to commute for work, whether it is downtown or to the airport. So a great option to go check out the city of Colleyville.

Roanoke Texas

Another area that we wanna talk about, is that people don't get into quite as much as the city of Roanoke.  Roanoke is only about seven square miles and just over 8,000 people live in Roanoke. And the kids there go to the Northwest independent school district, which is another fantastic school district. But the city of Roanoke is just, um, north, sorry, Northwest of Southlake Westlake area and right off and around the 114 highway. It does stretch over to about the 35 freeway and commuting down into Fort worth or down the 114 to anywhere around the DFW area is, is very convenient for people living in Roanoke, but it has a great community. It has all the amenities that you might need for a family and multiple great neighborhoods within the city of Roanoke. So people do tend to move there because it's getting a little bit more outside the city, not having to be quite in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of Dallas or some of the other cities that are closer to it. But yes, that 114 freeway, and where the 377 and the 35 west freeway are, is growing like crazy. So there's a lot of growth out there, but the way they're expanding all the roadways and the freeway systems. Tons going in and it just makes it very convenient, especially if you are wanting to commute down in Fort Worth or even up into Denton, it makes it a lot more convenient living there on the west side. So something to think about the city of Roanoke, 

Trophy Club Texas

Right in that same area, number three on our list is going to be the city of Trophy Club. And we love the city of Trophy Club.  It's just on the north side of where lake Westlake and east of Southlake and it is kind of along Lake Grapevine a little bit, and it is part of the Northwest independent school district as well. It does have great communities over there. There are some gated communities, beautiful, you know, a few Hills down, depending on where you're living in the Trophy Club area. But it, I, it does border right off the 377, highway as well. Not a big major highway stop lights are right there. Just another great area to live. If your kids, you know, if you want a home, that's maybe a little bit newer, not every home is newer, but there are a lot of, uh, newer neighborhoods over there. And you don't feel quite as congested. Like I said, living down in some of the busier areas, but the access to getting over into Southlake for all of your shopping and date nights for some of the nicer restaurants over in. The Southlake area is very easy to get to, but your everyday amenities, you know, your Walmarts, your home depots and any fast food restaurant you want is pretty much over there in that area. So, you know, obviously when you have kids and you're going to your football games and, having to pick 'em up after school sports and that kind of thing, um, I don't know about anybody else, but sometimes you can't eat dinner at home. So having multiple fast food restaurants, available to make every kid in your family, happy is so much easier. I hate eating out, I hate fast food, but at the same time, you know, when you have multiple kids and you're running to, and from schools all the time, that is a great area with lots of options, but yes, getting sometimes it is a little bit harder when you are. On the west side of the DFW area, especially if your kids are gonna get into things like club sports and have to travel all around the metroplex, you may have, you may not have tons of avenues with how to get around, but you're gonna have to probably be taking the 114 over or heading up north and trying to get all the way around, over into the Plano Frisco area. That could be a little bit of a hike sometimes, but granted it's a beautiful area and people, you know, if you're gonna be living there all the time and you want your kids to be involved, there's definitely a lot going on over there.

Keller Texas

Number four on our list that we wanna talk about, which is actually probably the largest area. It does get a little bit more love,  it is a great, fantastic family area in the city of Keller.  Now Keller, like I said, is the bigger one on our list today it's over 18 square miles and it does have a population of just under 47,000 people, but Keller has just been booming. It has been growing a ton and, there is a little bit of new build and stuff going on over there. Still thankfully, but, um, we've had multiple friends who have moved over into Keller and have loved the school district over there. But our friends over there loved it so much that when they were ready to upgrade their home, they just bought it in the neighborhood, across the street. It was that got them, that bigger house on the bigger lot with the bigger pool. So they were able to get into their starter home in, in the Keller area and just wait until they could move up because they did love it so much and that's what we've heard as well from so many of so many other people who've moved over there. They love the community feeling over there. They love how involved everybody gets,  whether it's getting involved in local events and community events, or school events, everybody. It's just a great atmosphere for people wanting to relocate and get very, very involved with their families. Keller is just to the west of Southlake and it does,  have great access if you're wanting to travel all around the DFW area, because it has access to freeways and it has multiple ways that you can actually, you know, sometimes traffic can get crazy. Obviously all the time, it seems no matter where you're going, but the way, uh, Keller is situated, you do have multiple ways that you can cut around, like say there's a bad accident or suddenly your road's under construction. You can kind of cut around and sometimes maybe you can cut through neighborhoods a lot easier. If you're having to commute from the city of Keller. 

Argyle Texas

Number five on the list is the city of Argyle. We've touched a little bit on it before, and we've actually been getting quite a few more inquiries about the area. Just because I think it's a little bit less known. Uh, more growth is definitely happening out there, but it's not.

But moving to the city of Argyle, it's kind of like getting that a little bit more of that rural feel, but not having to move so far outside of the city limits, and I think that's why people love Argyle. It is growing multiple new build communities are over there and back in the day, more of these properties had a lot more land. It is starting more people are starting to come in because the freeway access and the roadways are, starting to be built out over there. A lot more businesses are coming in over on the west side, especially off the 35 freeway. So if you're wanting that little bit more of a rural feel, but not being so far outside the city limits, I mean, it's technically on the east side of the 35 west freeway. So for us, that's almost like being within city limits, right? But it is a great location and because there is still quite a bit of land in the Argyle area, it does cover just over about 11 square miles and the population is about 4,200 people. So it is still growing and if you're going to look at any of these areas, a lot of the new builds,  they still have room in the Argyle area. Most of the other areas that we have talked about, if you're gonna find some new builds going on, it's gonna be very few and far between, especially somewhere down in Colleyville. You, if you're looking for a brand new home down there, it's probably gonna be some custom home on a lot. There aren't really any new build communities over there, but up in Argyle, you can still find that.

They're still building schools, but it's definitely a great community to get involved in as well as all of these others are. We've heard great reviews from everybody about how much they love moving there and how grateful they were to move there. Depending on what it is you're looking for, everybody has their own opinions. Um, and if you don't like it, you can move.
